A few typed responses:

What other artists' work do you admire?

I'm mesmerized by the work of Chris Jordan. Dumbfounded by Albrecht Dürer. Chilled by Sam Weber's illustrations. I wish I were friends with Art Spiegelman, J.J. Grandville, Julie Chen, and Francis Barlow, to name a few. I have a crush on Swoon. I would marry Hayao Miyazaki just so I could watch him make beautiful things.

Recommend some books or poems to me.

If you've never read The BFG or The Phantom Tollbooth, you had no childhood. But if you did have a childhood, then David Copperfield, The Sorrows of Young Werther, Lolita, and The Metamorphosis are high up on my list.

Do you watch television? Do you like it?

I actually kind of hate it. Not that there aren't shows I enjoy, but I have a really hard time sitting still. It's a quality of mine that makes me feel kind of bad when I yell at children for being fidgety and distracted.

How did you learn to cook?

One day I randomly decided that I was amazing at it and when I got home I cooked three different dishes and baked four types of cookies. Because of this event, I finally took up my dad's offer of teaching me his culinary wisdom. I'd like to say I've mastered all his techniques, but though I can cook all his signature dishes I have yet to learn the art of chopping vegetables in under 10 seconds and not crying when blasted by an onion's sulphurous fumes. I simply did not inherit his culinary badassery.

Should I go to art school or should I do what my parents want and study mechanical engineering?

I've met a number of mechanical engineers. You know what mechanical engineers who've been in the field for more than ten years talk about? PVC pipes. So if you envision yourself making small talk about PVC pipes ten years from now, then mechanical engineering may just be your thing.
